VECTIS RFC CELEBRATES RECORD YOUTH GROWTH, MAINLAND SUCCESSES, AND A FORTHCOMING FESTIVAL OF RUGBY

Vectis Rugby Football Club is experiencing a phenomenal season of growth, community connection, and on-pitch success. With youth membership now reaching 290 players spanning from Under 6s to Under 18s, the club is celebrating a string of successful mainland tours, inspiring achievements at the highest levels of the sport, and a packed schedule of upcoming spring events.

Under 10s at the South Coast Festival

The U10s crossed the Solent to Havant, putting on a stunning display of teamwork. Standout electric performances from Josh Keyzor and Wilf Smith highlighted a day defined by the "Vectis Spirit." Coach Allan noted, "A great day of rugby where everyone showed some real improvement. Our newer players stepped up and did themselves proud."

The U13s showed incredible character in Havant, finishing a hard-earned 4th out of 6 teams. After a tough 7-0 opening loss against a physical Havant Red side, the team demonstrated massive resilience, bouncing back with a dominant 10-0 victory over Saracens. The scoring spree featured tries from Billy Young (4), Theo Cherry (2), Finley Stevens, Wyatt Lee, Tom Saunders, and Ed Foster.

In a hard-fought 3rd/4th playoff against Havant A, breakaway tries from Louie Laidler and Harry Grant kept Vectis in the mix before ultimately falling 5-2. Coaches praised the squad's heart, noting, "The whole team played as a team today—they all put in 100%."

Under 12s Three-Day Tour

The U12 boys and girls returned from a whirlwind tour over 3 days taking on prestigious clubs like Old Cranleighans, Wimbledon RFC, and Chobham RFC as well as enjoying a range of social events. The highlight came at Richmond, where the Islanders were treated like royalty by London Scottish, serving as mascots and a Guard of Honour for the professional clash against Coventry, before taking to the main pitch for a half-time match.

Vectis RFC extends a massive thank you to the sponsors who made the U12 tour possible—S Whittington and Skyline Roofs—as well as Contour Sports for providing the eye-catching tour kit.

Inspiring the Next Generation on the Big Stage

The club’s deep connection to professional rugby was proudly on display this weekend at the iconic Principality Stadium in Cardiff during the Bristol Bears vs. Harlequins "Big Day Out." The massive event featured not one, but two Vectis friends.

Isle of Wight Rugby Festival supporter Amy Dale kitted up as number 16 for the Bristol Bears Women in front of a packed crowd at the Principality stadium. Following the final whistle, Dale took time to enter the stands to meet with some visiting Vectis youth players, proving to be an ongoing inspiration for the club, particularly the growing Vectis Girls section.

Adding to the club's immense pride, the men's Bears vs. Quins fixture was refereed by Adam Leal an ex-Vectis player and a current Vectis RFC Vice President. Having both a prominent professional player and a top-flight referee supporting the club shows our young players exactly what is possible with hard work and dedication.
