270 Island Children Take the Pitch for Epic Tag Rugby Festival.
Vectis Rugby Club was buzzing with energy this week as 270 primary school children from across the Island came together for a massive, action-packed Tag Rugby Festival. Featuring students from Years 3, 4, 5, and 6, the event showcased top-tier sportsmanship, incredible teamwork, and the bright future of grassroots rugby on the Isle of Wight.
The highly successful day was arranged by the Jason Robinson Foundation and co-organized by the Isle of Wight Community Sports Coaching team, who worked together to ensure a seamless and fun-filled experience for all. Generous support for the event was also provided by local sponsor Isle of Wight Tomatoes.
The Jason Robinson Foundation, founded by the World Cup-winning dual-code rugby legend Jason Robinson OBE, operates under the mission that no one's past or circumstances should dictate their future. Known as "The Unstoppable Project," the foundation uses sport as a tool for positive social change, providing children from diverse backgrounds with access to high-quality coaching, mentoring, and safe environments. By breaking down barriers, the foundation helps young people discover their potential, build confidence, and learn vital life skills like teamwork and discipline.
Partnering closely for this event, Isle of Wight Community Sports Coaching brought their local expertise to the pitch. Dedicated to providing honest, professional, and affordable sports coaching across the Island, their team is a staple in the community. They run everything from holiday sports camps to in-school coaching to ensure Island youth stay active and engaged in grassroots sports.

As the host for the festival, Vectis RFC continues to cement its reputation as a powerhouse for youth rugby on the Isle of Wight. Celebrating unprecedented record growth across its youth squads during the 2025/26 season, Vectis RFC is dedicated to nurturing young talent from Under 7s all the way up to the Under 18 Colts. Vectis provides an inclusive, supportive environment where young players can develop their skills—frequently traveling to the mainland to secure impressive victories and proudly represent Island rugby. It really is a friendly rugby family and everyone is welcome.
While Jason Robinson couldn’t make it across the water to attend the festival in person, he didn't let the Solent stop him from being part of the action. The rugby icon sent a special video message to the 270 young players, cheering them on from afar: “Wishing all the players taking part the very best today!”
"The energy, sportsmanship, and skills on display today were absolutely incredible," a spokesperson for Vectis Rugby Club said. "The kids certainly did Jason proud. We want to extend a huge thank you to all the schools, teachers, parents, and volunteers who came out to support the children and make this event such a resounding success."
