Vectis Rugby Returns to Action: Grit, Celebration, and a Community in Solidarity

We are Back!!

Match Reports: Resilience in the Face of Adversity

After an extended winter break caused by frozen pitches across the region, Vectis Rugby Football Club has officially returned to the field. From the U6s through to the U18s, squads have resumed training with renewed energy, ready to take on the 2026 season.

Vectis Colts: Battle in the Mud

A tough day away in a wet and muddy Petersfield ended in the Vectis Colts' first loss in the league. The 12–33 scoreline was a fair reflection of the game, where Petersfield played smart, close-quarter rugby in driving rain and freezing temperatures.

Despite the conditions, there were strong attacking runs from Jack Coates and Player of the Match, George Cowell. These efforts saw John Waghorn score two tries, one of which was converted by Preston Williams. Vectis look forward to the return fixture where they hope to get the win—something they are more than capable of doing.

Vectis U13s vs. Havant RFC

It was a challenging afternoon for the Vectis U13s as they faced a physically imposing Havant side at home playing from Sandown & Shanklin RFC.

The Vectis U13s faced a formidable challenge against a talented Havant side, eventually going down 9–1 in a hard-fought contest. Despite the scoreline, the game was a testament to the effort and resilience of the Vectis squad.
Havant capitalized on clinical execution, but the deficit could have been far wider if not for an outstanding Vectis defence, which included several determined goal-line stands to hold Havant up over the line. For large spells, the game was evenly contested, with Vectis showing great commitment at the breakdown and making significant ground through strong carries.
The final 20 minutes were played in brutal conditions, with torrential rain driving across the pitch. Despite this, Vectis never stopped battling. Edward Foster crossed for the Vectis try and was deservedly named Player of the Match by Havant. Every player gave 100%, showing the character and teamwork that defines the club.

Happy Birthday: Hon. Chairman Allan Bridges

Vectis RFC would like to extend the warmest of birthday wishes to our Hon. Chairman, Allan Bridges.
Allan is a tireless advocate for youth rugby on the Isle of Wight. His passion for making the sport accessible to all and his dedication to supporting the three senior clubs on the island remain the driving force behind our success. Beyond his administrative work and coaching of the U10’s, Allan’s "celebrity past" continues to shine through his work with Allan TV! We thank him for his unwavering commitment to our young players.

Honouring Tristan "Beast" Price

While we celebrate our return, the rugby family also comes together in a time of shared grief. Vectis RFC joins clubs across Hampshire in sending our deepest condolences to Ventnor RFC following the passing of Tristan "Beast" Price.

Tristan was a beloved figure in the local rugby community, and our thoughts are with his family, friends, and the entire Ventnor RFC community. In a gesture of respect and solidarity:
• Vectis retired the Number 1 jersey across all age groups for matches taking place today, January 11th.
• We encourage our members and the wider community to support the GoFundMe campaign established to assist Tristan’s family during this difficult time: https://gofund.me/8b96ec605

Join the Vectis Family in 2026!
We want to extend a warm welcome to anyone who would like to give rugby a try in the New Year.
• First two sessions are completely free.
• Keep an eye on our social media for training schedules.
• Turn up, or reach out via social media, email, or the website.
From our youngest players taking their first steps in rugby, to our older age groups giving it their all every weekend – they have all made this year something special.

We’re so proud to be a youth-only club, providing rugby opportunities for young people aged 5–18 here on the Isle of Wight.
